Introduction and a question..

Hi all! I've been lurking for the last 2 weeks, ever since my very UNEXPECTED BFP! I am 7 months Post RNY and wasnt looking to have any more children. My son just turned 21 at the end of November and after trying for more than 18 years to have another baby I let that dream go.

I've been taken by surprise and to be honest...........I'm scared!

So, my question is....how do I figure out how far along I am? Before my BFP I would have said that the first day of my last period was 12/8/10.........however, looking back I noted on my calendar that I only spotted on the 8th and 9th and then griped about having cramps and nothing more. So, that takes me back to my last "normal" cycle being in November? I called the doctor and the first appointment I could get is on 1/27/2011 so I have to wait a couple of weeks to see what he has to say. Any ideas???

Wow I thought mine were going to be far apart at 14yrs. Congrats. Clear Blue makes a pregnancy test that can also give you the amount of weeks since conception. I recommend since you have so long to wait for the dr appt to try one of those.

10/18/07 RNY ( hw 305 sw 290 lw 189ish) St Joe's 08/14/14 RNY reversal to sleeve. I survived 3 leaks,4 operations and a feeding tube.

Hi Dawn,

Thank you for letting me know about the Clear Blue test. I'm going to see if I can find it today. I realize that it isnt as good as a sono, however, it would give me an idea of where things stand.

Congrats!  I know it's unexpected and can be scary.  But breathe... you and your baby will be fine.  Make sure that your OB is familiar with the unique needs of a RNY mommy.  Make sure that you are up to date on your vitamins and let your WLS surgeon know that your pg.

As far as how far along you are... the best way to really know for sure is with that US. The US tech will measure the fetus and will tell you the age.  I think the light spotting you did on 12/8-9 could possibly have been a false period (not really a period) and that you may have conceived in Nov.  But really, since you are questioning, best way to tell is with the US.

Good luck! Many blessings for 9 months of a healthy pregnancy. Start taking prenatals & folic (if you haven't already) and call your WLS surgeon.

How wonderful...yet scary I am sure.  My sister has a little girl who will be 2 in March and then her boys are 17 and almost 21 (in April).  She did great with her pregnancy-and the kids have adjusted wonderful- good birth control lesions for the older kids....LOL.  (My sister didn't have WLS)  I would think that you probably will be dated back to Nov if you only spotted in Dec.  U/S will give you a good estimate.  Just make sure you are getting prenatal vits in your routine and taking good care of you (keep out of ketosis).  Good luck!

Congrats!  I am actually going to not agree with the previous posters.  The spotting could have been a period and therefore you could have gotten pregnant in Dec, but yes an ultrasound is the best way to find out.  The only reason I say that is because I spotted for two days at the beginning of January 2008 and found out in February that I got pregnant around the 15th of January.  Good luck and I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and honest responses. I am still shell shocked! The last time that I was pregnant I was 16 years old........way too many years in between. I know that I will have to sit tight until my doctor appointment and see if or when he schedules a sono for me.

I've added folic acid to my other vits, but not a pre-natal since I wasnt sure if I should replace my Centrum Silver or not.

For now, I would go with the last period being on 12/8/10. They can always change it later... trust me, you'd rather loose days in the count down than add them. They can determine it with a sonogram.

Don't be scared, I got pregnant with my son 7 months out from RNY and he turned out fine. I had some issues staying hydrated and keeping my blood sugars up, especially in the first triester, but my Tristan came out healthy and perfect :) Just pay attention to what you eat and drink and you'll do fine.

You are amazingly close to me (I looked at your profile), which is awesome since no one else is. :) Welcome!
